| COURSE OFFERINGS Resolving Personal Challenges |
Organizations providing support services to vulnerable populations such as people with disabilities, are
faced with unique personnel challenges that may increase the organization’s exposure to liability and
impact the quality of life of those supported. Through a series of challenging vignettes developed by Dr.
Tom Pomeranz, managers and supervisors working in the field of disabilities gain critical supervisory
skills to proactively address significant personnel issues to limit liability. The participants are organized
into small groups of 4-7 individuals and presented with challenging administrative and human resource
scenarios frequently encountered by management. A few of the topical areas discussed include but are
not limited to: allegations of physical abuse; neglect; on the job substance abuse; theft of individual’s
funds; breach of confidentiality; sexual harassment; falsifying individual records, etc.
This workshop’s instructional format allows each of the small groups to process what action steps they
would employ to resolve the personnel issues presented. Following the presentation of each groups’
action steps, Tom critiques the conclusions and offers his response to the scenarios.
