Understanding Transfer Trauma An Insidious and Stealthy Condition



This highly informative session provides critically essential information to efficaciously support individuals in their transition to their new residence or acute care therapeutic setting. Dr. Tom Pomeranz explains that transfer trauma is a physical, behavioral, and emotional reaction to a sudden change in one’s surroundings. Tom explains that transfer trauma can happen with the loss of everyday routines, preferred foods, valued relationships, everyday artifacts, etc.


Most importantly the session details a myriad of protocols that can be put in place to prevent or minimize the often tragic or deleterious effects of Relocation Stress Syndrome. Recognizing that Relocation Stress Syndrome can be difficult to diagnose, Tom will decisively detail the signs and symptoms most associated with the condition. The session reveals how Diagnostic Overshadowing impairs our ability to easily recognize the condition.


Participants will leave the session with a heightened awareness and sensitivity to this stealthy and insidious disorder. Participants will recognize the critical function and role person centered planning plays in the transaction process.
