This informative presentation provides discussion and analysis regarding the commonalties and differences between the IHP, ISP and the Futures Planning process. Focus is given to the essential elements of a Futures Planning process. Strategies for identifying the dreams and priorities of individuals are discussed in detail. Though form and format of the Futures Planning process is briefly discussed, primary emphasis is given to the use of generic supports, overcoming the restrictions of highly regulated environments, effectively utilizing available resources and empowering direct contact staff to serve as active learning instructors in the process. Dr. Tom Pomeranz emphasizes the process to identify the preferences and desires of individuals who require pervasive support. The training is grounded in the belief that “people cannot have a future if they don’t have a presence.” Tom convincingly makes the point that Futures Plans can be successfully developed and realized in highly regulated environments. |
