COURSE OFFERINGS
Managing Anger and Its Consequences
In this highly motivating and practically oriented training, Dr.
Tom Pomeranz provides attendees with the essential
competencies to enhance their skills to manage anger and its
consequences.  The session analyzes the causes of inappropriate
behavior and reveals that anger is an expression of unmet need.
Attendees gain familiarity with the anger spiral and learn
strategies to stop and reverse the escalation of anger in
themselves as well as others.  Best practice strategies are
detailed to enhance skills in finding points of agreement,
negotiating toward resolution, reading body language, stating
one’s opinion clearly and managing “back lash.”  Tom discusses
that thoughts and feelings such as “I want it now!” “Do it for
me!” and “It’s just not fair!” contribute to the challenge of
managing one’s anger.

As a strategy to promote socially acceptable behavior the
following values will be discussed:

  • People have the ability to control themselves.
  • People who stay calm in stressful situations can assist
    others to remain calm.
  • Anger is an expression of frustration, anxiety or fear.
  • Anger communicates unmet need.
  • Negotiation skills are more valuable than control methods.
  • People change when supported by strong, positive
    relationships.
  • People who can make choices and control their own lives
have less need to attempt to control others.
  • People are responsible for their own behavior.
