In this highly interactive seminar, Tom Pomeranz provides participants an opportunity to creatively address numerous challenges that commonly arise when transitioning traditional site - based day support programs to integrated employment/volunteer options. This dynamic session focuses on a diversity of issues such as effectively providing supports non-intrusively in community settings, addressing toileting, dietary and health care issues promptly and safely. In addition, participants will problem solve the challenges facing individual/s thus enabling staff to identify customized volunteer and employment opportunities, develop protective oversight strategies in community settings and much more.
Through small group discussion, participants are provided with scenarios detailing situational challenges with which they are likely to be confronted in community settings. Tom will lead the groups through the problem solving process and culminate each scenario with a presentation as to what is deemed an appropriate approach for each given problem. These analyses are based on what is considered best practice approaches in our field – promoting inclusionary communities, shifting societal attitudes and improving the quality of life for those we support.
